Holy moly! it's been a while since I've posted because I couldn't get into the account. Oh well. Here's a longish entry to compensate.
After nearly 2 years in Japan, I'm flying back to the U.S. tomorrow. I'll be landing at LAX November 8th.
Today we spent the day running errands around Nikko. First, I closed my bank account, then we went to lunch. After lunch we sold the car. And after the car was sold, I closed my cell phone account. After that, we went to our favorite restaurant in Nikko, Hippari Dako. The restaurant owner, Miki-san, was sad to hear that I was flying off to California tomorrow. Since it was our last dinner, it was on the house. She's very nice.
Last Sunday, Hirundo_rustica, some friends and I went to Mashiko town. Mashiko is famous for it's pottery. Due to the high quality of clay there, many ceramicists flock there to establish their studios. Below is an kiln made of dirt!
This is a giant ceramic 狸 (タヌキ) (Tanuki), the God of Restauranteurs. It looks like a badger but is in fact a type of dog!
This is my ex-branch manager, Takeshi. He's eating a skewered shitake mushroom that's been grilled and marinated in soy sauce. It was quite hot.
An ocean of ceramic-ware.
These are some various shots of different ceramics that I liked.
This is a little guy called モスモス (Mosu Mosu).
These little guys are called 地蔵 （じぞう）"Jizo" are the protectors of children. Also, they can lessen the amount of time suffering in hell. A handy little divinity.
So that was my last week in Japan.
